The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) provides support to small scale, short-term projects in the Pacific by working with local, national and international NGOs and other organizations. The CFLI focuses on funding projects with long-term, sustainable goals that enhance the local community. Recipient organizations are expected to make a contribution in cash or in kind. The High Commission of Canada in Canberra is particularly interested in receiving project proposals that focus on:
Empowering women and girls and promoting gender equality;
Promoting human development, specifically in the areas of health, nutrition, and education;
Championing human rights, inclusive and accountable governance, democracy, peaceful pluralism, and respect for diversity; and
Promoting action on the environment, including water and climate change
Projects that aim to build local NGO capacity, support cultural preservation, and have a broader regional reach are also of interest. Traditionally, the majority of projects supported fall in the C$5,000* to C$30,000 range (up to a maximum of C$50,000).
